What constitutes workplace harm?

These are common types of harm:

  • Verbal Abuse – Insults, yelling, derogatory remarks, or belittling language directed at an individual.

  • Psychological Abuse – Manipulation, gaslighting, or other tactics to undermine a person’s sense of reality or self-worth.

  • Physical Intimidation – Any behavior that threatens or invades personal space, including physical threats, aggressive posturing, or blocking someone's path.

  • Sexual Harassment – Unwanted sexual advances, comments, gestures, or behaviors that create an uncomfortable or hostile work environment.

  • Racial and Ethnic Harassment – Insults, jokes, or exclusion based on race, ethnicity, or cultural background.

  • Age-Based Harassment – Dismissive or demeaning treatment based on age, whether directed at younger or older employees.

  • Gender-Based Discrimination – Unequal treatment, biased comments, or exclusion based on gender or gender identity.

  • LGBTQ+ Harassment – Hostility, derogatory comments, or exclusion based on sexual orientation or gender expression.

  • Disability Discrimination – Harassment, exclusion, or lack of accommodations for individuals with disabilities.

  • Work Sabotage – Deliberate interference, withholding of critical information, or setting up someone to fail in their job.

  • Cyberbullying – Harassing messages, public shaming, or hostile communication through email, social media, or workplace platforms.

  • Unfair Workload Distribution – Imposing unrealistic workloads or expectations on specific employees to cause stress or set them up for failure.

  • Exclusion and Isolation – Deliberately excluding someone from meetings, decisions, or team activities to undermine their position or status.

  • Retaliation and Threats – Intimidation, threats, or penalizing someone for raising concerns, filing complaints, or whistleblowing.
